Signs & Countersigns

A business card board game


Thank you for playing my experimental board game, Signs & Countersigns.  The idea is to design and develop a game that can be played entirely with and by handing out my future business cards.  Ideally, this will show off my skills as a game developer.

 

Listed below are the rules and some guidelines for playing.  Please note that these are all experimental, in testing, and subject to change as new rules are added, removed, and existing ones are edited to better suit the game's playability.


About

In this medieval city, everyone knows that the streets are ran by the three major crime guilds.  The guilds are constantly battling each other to prove that they are the biggest, baddest, most nefarious ne'er-do-wells to ever live in infamy. 

The thieves guild, assassin guild, and the spy guilds are all trying to lay their claim to the city, but their members must also keep a low profile as they fear that members of the city watch have gone under cover inside their ranks.  It's an all out war of malicious actors!  

Find your guild-mates, take out your enemies, and above all, don't get arrested by the city watch!


Game Rules:

Phase One: Intruegue

 This is a simple visual chart to show the scoring dynamics of play.  The object of the game is to find your target while avoiding those targeting you.  If you find your ally (those in the same guild), you get double points.  Inversely, if you are a cop, you goal is to find everyone else who are not cops.  You lose if you find another cop.

How to Criminal, part 1

For each of three rounds:
1) Hide hands.
2) Chose your symbol.
3) With your opponent, 
show symbols at the
same time.
4) pay attention and try to
discover their affiliation.
5) At the end of three
rounds, go to phase 2.


PHASE TWO: Reveal

1)Silently choose to reveal
yourself, or not.
2)Reveal your chosen hand
symbol(s) at the same time.
3) Don’t die or get arrested.


goals

  • High-five your friends to win.
  • Take out your target.
  • Don't get caught by the cops.
  • Don't get taken out by your enemies.
  • If you're a cop:
    • Don't arrest other cops.
    • You are not required to tell people if you are a cop if they ask.

Score

  • Discover your target +1
  • Discover a guild mate +2
  • Get discovered by your enemy = Lose
  • Get arrested by cops = Lose

Highest surviving score wins!
